The beautiful ancient cities of Bulgaria are now enjoying a great number for tourists and travelers from across the globe, but most of these are coming mostly because of the unique ski, spa and Black Sea resorts. Bulgaria offers some of the most exciting destinations for tourists looking to enjoy a vacation for less in Europe, offering unique and unspoiled nature. Further the country is still quite less expensive as compared to most of the other European countries.

Photograph Nick Hutt

But this country of almost 8000000 people has much to offer for a tourist wanting to explore. Bulgaria is full of rich flora and fauna and fresh water springs and curative mineral mud coasts. Bulgaria is well connected to by Eurail, European budget flyers and the Eurolines bus service and the of course, if you have rented a car in Europe mainland, you very well drive in to the country with a valid passport and visa for any of the EU member countries.

Apart from the springs and the mineral mud coasts, Bulgaria has on offer its beautiful Black Sea Coast and the amazing seaside resorts surrounding it. Every year thousands of tourists from all over the world flock to the various cities of Bulgaria located on the side of Black Sea. The largest and most important cities located on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast are Bourgas and Varna.

Although Bourgas is more of an industrial town located on the Black Sea coast, it is fast becoming a favored tourist destination because of the free trade zone and its great night life. Apart from that, the fact that Bourgas is one of the two airports on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast where your flights would land, it has also ensured that it develops faster as compared to other smaller towns. Bourgas is also surrounded by various beautiful sea coast resorts like the Sunny Beach resort for example. This resort boasts one of the longest and widest beaches privately owned. Just 35 km away from the city of Bourgas, it ensures that you can peacefully lie in the sun and still are never too far from the city. The resort has fabulous restaurants, discos and pubs to suit everyone’s needs.

Another amazing hotel cum resort on the outskirts of Bulgaria is Barcelo Royal Beach Resort. On only 25 km away from the town of Bourgas, it has on offer all the modern facilities that you can ever ask for and at prices that will make you want to stay longer. Varna is the other the major city on the Black Sea coast which attracts a number of tourists each year. Actually most of the tourists coming to Bulgarian Black Sea are landing in Varna’s international airport. It is also one the most beautiful and modern towns in Bulgaria. Varna is a town where the renaissance, medieval and the modern world meet. The city is full of amazing pieces of architecture and is surrounded by many beautiful beach resorts, such as Albena, St. Konstantin & Elena, Golden Sands and many more.

The most famous beachside hotel cum resort in Varna is the Dallas Residence. It is located at walking distance from the beach front and offers all the modern amenities with a peaceful surrounding. Being within the city, it ensures that you can always go around the city any moment to see its beautifully landscaped gardens and many other attractions that the city has on offer for every tourist.

Ivaylo Yordanov is the author and can provide you with additional information about Bulgarian Black Sea resorts & tourism. Here are ten tips on what Bulgaria offers the holidaymaker, year round.

Beaches: You might not expect to find places with English names like Sunny Beach and Golden Sands, but these 1960s resorts have been brought right up to date while living up to their names. Sunny Beach is big and brash – Golden Sands is better for a more relaxed holiday.

Beaches plus: You don’t have to stay in a purpose-built resort to enjoy the beach. Nessebar, just a few miles from Sunny Beach, is a “living museum” town of cobbled streets and historic buildings reached by causeway from its beach hotels. Sozopol is another old town with a busy modern quarter.

Spa and wellness: Many of the new hotels that have sprung up in beach resorts offer beauty treatments and therapies. Aromatherapy and thalassotherapy, using sea water, are among the options.

Skiing: The resorts of Pamporovo and Borovets are especially good for beginners and a lot of money has been spent to improve accommodation standards, ski schools and ski lifts. The resort of Bansko is also good for intermediate and expert grades too, and is the most extensive with 40 miles of marked pistes.

Mountain activities: Bansko is a year-round resort with lots going on in the summer too. Try kayaking, mountain biking, rafting or trekking to the peak of Mount Vihren, at nearly 3,000 metres above sea level.

Cruising: Embark at the port of Varna to discover the Black Sea, stopping at places including Sozopol and Nessebar. Longer cruises visit Romania and Turkey.

History:A tour of the interior opens your eyes to a land of medieval towns and Orthodox monasteries. Don’t miss ancient Plovdiv (Bulgaria’s second city), the former capital of Veliko Tarnovo, and Rila monastery.

Wine: Many vineyards welcome visitors, where you can sample little-known and under-rated vintages such as Lyaskovets and Haskovo.

Country pleasures: Villages have come back to life after the collectivisation policy of the Communists. Farmhouse accommodation is starting to develop – and the food is delicious.

Culture capital: Sofia is a surprisingly diverse city, with ancient mosques and synagogues among its Orthodox cathedral and churches. It is close to Mount Vitosha, for a day or half-day glimpse of nature.

Bulgaria is not just a great choice for sun and sand but a place of history and culture, where people have re-discovered their traditions after the dismal years of Communism.

With availability of low cost flights to Bulgaria from all over Europe, holidays in Bulgaria remain affordable and a great alternative to the more traditional European holiday centres.

Penny Church in collaboration with travel writer Jimi St. Pierre, writes for several UK travel companies and recommends Travelwhere, the map-based holiday brochure finder and destination information resource for the UK traveller. With Travelwhere, you can find cheap flights to Bulgaria along with a wealth of additional information – including the package holiday brochures of specialist tour operators to Bulgaria.

The Black Sea is an inland sea between southeastern Europe and the Anatolian peninsula (Turkey) and is ultimately connected to the Atlantic Ocean via the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas and various straits. The Euxine abyssal plain in the centre of the Black Sea reaches a maximum depth of 2,206 m (7,240 ft) just south of Yalta on the Crimean peninsula. The steppes to the north of the Black Sea have been suggested as the original homeland (Urheimat) of the speakers of the Proto-Indo-European language, (PIE) the progenitor of the Indo-European language family, by some scholars (see Kurgan; others move the heartland further east towards the Caspian Sea, yet others to Anatolia).

Photograph by Nick Hutt

Many big rivers fall into the Black Sea, making the salinity of its surface water half that of the ocean: 17. The Black Sea marine life is full of wonders, starting right at the surfline. The ecosystem of the Black Sea quickly responds to external influences, both to the natural ones, like environmental factors fluctuations, or anthropogenic effects, like fisheries, construction works in the coastal zone, and all kinds of marine pollution. These are just a few facts that point to the dramatic role that Turkey and its Black Sea shores have played in world history. Russia’s only deep-water port on the Black Sea is at Novorrossijsk. The rocky Black Sea bays are ideal for scuba diving, and there are many centres along the coast.

The temperature of the sea water is already 20C and along the southern part of the Black sea coast is expected to become even higher in July. Based on these data, a set of maps showing climatic oceanography of the Black Sea (temperature and salinity for each months and each season for 20 standard depths) as well as major water masses of the Black Sea were incorporated in the system. But even in that climate the Black Sea area was wellknown for its developed trade relations and contacts.

Bulgaria

One Bulgarian understanding of the name is that the sea used to be quite stormy. The third national exhibition from Bulgaria’s treasures sequence, named Gods, people and masks will be officially opened tomorrow in the Regional historical museum in Varna, Bulgaria, informs Darik radio. This small Romanian village close to the Bulgarian border has been a counter-cultural oasis since the days of communism when it was (somewhat uncharacteristically) tolerated by Ceausescu as a hangout for intellectuals.

The popularity of the Bulgarian coast and sea resorts has seen a robust growth in recent years, following the fall of communism and the opening of borders to foreign tourists. It is bordered by Ukraine to the north,Russia to the northeast, Georgia to the east, Turkey to the south, and Bulgariaand Romania to the west.

Bulgaria is not the country that comes to the mind when you talk about holiday in the sun. Still people are magnetically attracted to this beautiful country and are pleasantly surprised by the diversity of it. The country is located in the south-eastern Europe and is bordered by Romania to the north, Greece and Turkey to the south and the black sea which takes away all the borders of the east. The clear azure of the sea is breathtaking and many tourists are left surprised by the sheer depth of the beauty of the sea. It has a civilized history to back upon dating back 6,600 years, and throughout the country you will find ruins of the past for example ancient Greek sites, hundreds of monasteries, roman amphitheatres and 40,000 listed archeological treasures.

The silky Mediterranean climate invites many tourists to soak up the sun in the bare beaches. Bulgaria’s beaches resorts are one of the largest in this part of the world the resort inhabit many hotels, restaurants and pubs. Numerous music bars stretch the line of the coastline. In recent years more and more people have visited these resorts after the fall of communism the resorts popularity have exceeded and people across world come hear as the rates are much cheaper then any other land of Mediterranean climate.

The beach resort has many hotels that have the trademark existence of sunny beach Bulgaria, the hotels provide everything you need and provide the best of hospitality.

The food presented is of high quality and most of the menu consists of exotic nature starting from sea food to most delicious Bulgarian food. The local dish “Karvarma” which is eaten on daily basis is one of the specialties and very sought after dish in Bulgarian dine. This dish is eaten on mostly daily basis with a dash of beer. The food is generally cost effective and it is quite affordable and it easily comes under the budget. A meal for two with a bottle of wine nearly cost 7 to 8 pounds while compared to European standards the standard remains quite high.

Hotel in sunny beach Bulgaria is a treattorelish the sandy beaches and altogether the above mentioned cuisine helps the tourists to enjoy their sunny day hotel Bulgaria in a fantastic way.

If you want to go out and explore all places near to the coastline of Bulgaria then you can hire a taxi and visit most exotic places. You can hire a car for a few days from a well reputed car hire companies in very cheap prices.

The Bulgarian countryside is stunningly beautiful but for heading your own course could be a difficult job since there is no English translation to road signs.

Now, when your Christmas plans are done, it’s just the time to begin thinking about your summer vacations. Let me introduce Bulgaria – one the most pleasant but not expensive resort destination on the Black Sea shore. From May till late September its beaches are overcrowded by the tourists, mainly from Germany and Russia. Depending on your preferences you have a choice of the several good resorts – Golden Sands, Albena, Kranevo, St. Constantine and Hellena, Sunny Beach.

Golden Sands and Sunny Beach are the biggest ones, but those who like to rest in calm and quite atmosphere (and pay less money) prefer Kranevo or St. Constantine and Hellena. If you have chosen Sunny Beach you will arrive to Bourgas Airport. In all other cases you will land in Varna.

Sunny Beach is the biggest resort on Bulgarian Black Sea shore. It has more than 100 hotels. Beaches, dunes and sun are the characteristic feature of the Sunny Beach. Even if the weather in all Bulgaria is cloudy here you are most like to find sun. The resort is not far from Nessebar – one of the oldest and most interesting tourist destinations in Bulgaria. In 1956 this town was proclaimed an architectural and archeological reserve. The remains of an antique fortified wall with a gate dating from III-IV century, the churches from V-VI century and the ones dating from the medieval period (X-XIV century), the 60 houses of the revival period, give the town unique appearance and atmosphere. Here you feel a lot like in Italy or Greece. In short, it’s on the best samples of South European architecture and nature.

Golden Sands, Albena, Kranevo, St. Constantine and Hellena are not far from each other and not far from Varna. The closest to Varna is St. Constantine and Hellena. Not big, but very cozy and leafy resort.

Golden Sands is the second biggest sea resort in Bulgaria. It is surrounded be the sea from one side, and by the hills and forests from the other. The profusion of the greenery allows feeling comfortable even during July heat. The resort has long coastline and the amount of the hotels barely lower than in Sunny Beach. The city seems consisting only of hotels, restaurants and bars. The most of people working here, live in Varna.
Albena is a relatively big resort too, a little bit further from Varna. Kranevo is very close to Albena but it’s a kind of village with a lot of local population living there. The prices are aloud lower than, for example, in Golden Sands. So, if you’d like to feel the real Bulgarian life, you’d better choose Kranevo. A lot of tourists here prefer to stay not in the hotels, but in the private houses.
From all these resorts you can visit Balchik and the cape of Kaliakra. Balchik is a resort too, but it’s also a town with a lot of attractions and long history. The most popular tourist places are the palace complex and the botanical garden once belonging the Queen Maria of Romania. Kaliakra is a beautiful cape close to the Romanian border. Usually, it is the final stop of foreign tourists looking for pretty sights and interesting places to the north of Varna. The cape stretches 2km deep into the sea and consists of 60-70m-high rocks. Sometimes here you can see dolphins.

Bulgaria is situated in South east Europe and occupies the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. To the north it borders on Romania, to the west on the Republic of Macedonia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, to the east on the Black Sea, to the south on Greece and to the south east on Turkey’s European part. Bulgaria shares borders with Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, Greece, and Turkey. Two mountain ranges and two great valleys mark the topography of Bulgaria, a country the size of Tennessee and situated on the Black Sea. The Maritsa is Bulgaria’s principal river, and the Danube also flows through the country. Holiday makers are amazed by its beautiful and diverse scenery and the beaches are regarded as some of the best in Europe.

Many tourists stay in holiday villas in the Rila Mountains as they find that the freedom and independence that the holiday villas afford them, enable them to explore the country side at their leisure.

Lovers of the outdoor lifestyle go hiking and climbing in the mountains enjoying their stunning views and natural habitat. It is also becoming a popular travel destination for holiday makers who like to bike ride in the summer months. In the winter months the mountains are a popular skiing destination. The ski chalets are popular for people coming on vacation offering skiing for the novice and the experienced skier.

The lovers of sun, sea and sand flock to the Black Sea Coast in ever increasing numbers. They are drawn there by the superb Mediterranean climate and stay in many of the new holiday villas and self catering apartments. Although some of these beach resorts are fairly new, they have quickly established themselves as some of the best value for money vacations in Europe.

The North West of Bulgaria is also a popular destination for vacations with many tourists taken in by the charm of the locals and the county side has many architectural gems to offer. There are charming holiday cottages available for rental and they act as an ideal base to explore the stunning countryside.

Bulgaria’s climate is a temperate continental climate with four seasons. A Mediterranean influence is felt in the country’s southern regions and has led to the building of many holiday villas to cater for tourists in the summer.

There is much to do and see in Bulgaria and you are sure to be able to design the perfect holiday for your needs. The mountainous areas provide quality places to hike or ski and the cities offer cultural and historical opportunities. The beautiful Bulgarian Black Sea coast is a world class stretch of resorts offering sandy beaches and water sports.

If you are looking for top notch skiing in the winter and great hiking in the summer look no further than Bansko. It enjoys a climate of short summers and long, snowy winters. The skiing here is less expensive than at some of the other resorts yet no less fun. There are plenty of places to eat, drink and of course, shop.

Borovets is the most popular of the ski resorts in Bulgaria. Besides great skiing there are plenty of things to do and see along with many restaurants, cafes and shops for your pleasure. There are also a number of places to rent ski equipment and in summer, the hiking is considered to be quite good here as well.

In Pamporovo the main activity in winter is the downhill skiing and the numerous slopes cater for all abilities. Located in the Rodopi Mountains, this resort area also features great hiking in the summer. The area caters to families and so is a good place to bring your first time skier.

The Bulgarian Black Sea coast offers dozens of resorts each with their own unique blend of beach and sightseeing opportunities. Sunny Beach is the largest of the beach resorts, with plenty of water sport activities such as water skiing, wind surfing, swimming, parasailing and jet skiing. There are beautiful expansive beaches with hundreds of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars along the way. Golden Sands is another popular beach resort choice and delivers just what it says it will – golden sand beaches.

Varna is the largest Bulgarian city on the Black Sea. There are many restaurants and activities to keep you busy here. It is also a great central location to start from when traveling to many of the seaside resorts. Varna is home to several large and interesting museums, churches and parks. The National Naval Museum is located near the city beach and houses an impressive array of naval artifacts. The Ethnographic Museum is one of the country’s best while the Archaeological Museum has over 100,000 objects and offers English captions. Primorski Park is a large attractive green space featuring a planetarium, zoo park, terrarium and dophinarium.

Whether staying in the mountains or near the shore, holiday rentals can be found to suit your every need. From a private villa to a seaside apartment, rentals can afford you the ability to stay close to the beach or mountain yet the privacy you desire. Rentals often have their own pools and may offer access to private beaches.

Conclusion

Whether you plan to holiday in the mountains or at the beach, Bulgaria is likely to have a resort to suit. From the world class ski resorts of Bansko, Pamporovo and Borovets to the sandy delights of Sunny Beach and the cultural riches of Varna, Bulgarian resorts offer competitively priced accommodation and a wealth of cafes, restaurants and shops.

Bulgaria is not the country that comes to the mind when you talk about holiday in the sun. Still people are magnetically attracted to this beautiful country and are pleasantly surprised by the diversity of it.The country is located in the south-eastern Europe and is bordered by Romania to the north, Greece and Turkey to the south and the black sea which takes away all the borders of the east.

Bulgaria offers pleasures for each one’s taste. Thinking of an active holiday? Bulgaria has it – swimming, skiing, riding, climbing, hunting, fishing… Thinking of relaxing – amazing nature, sunny beaches, healing spas, monasteries and churches, hospitable towns and villages… Ancient culture, endless beaches and an emerald sea, high mountains with marvellous gorges and caves, clear lakes and rivers full of fish, wide valleys, healing springs, ancient culture, hospitable people, tempting cuisine and wines, diverse flora and fauna… Rent holiday home or vacation rental in Bulgaria (http://bulgaria-vacation-rentals.com) and enjoy your stay!

All accommodation places in Bulgaria have been categorised according to the 5-star international system. Privatisation has had a favourable impact and today the country is proud of hotels and restaurants that meet the modern world standard.

When you are ready for that once in a lifetime experience of an Bulgarian vacation, consider a private home rental for your source of lodging. Hotels can be nice, but staying in a private home rented for the occasion can give you a chance to see the real Bulgaria. Explore the countryside, walk into the village and visit with the residents, and see what it feels like to actually go home, to a cabin or villa at the end of the day, living as the Bulgarians do. Or, try a beach house if that suits you or an apartment if you prefer a more urban setting. Getting to know the local people by living among them for an extended stay of a few weeks will give you a chance to learn some of the language, or if you already speak Bulgarian to brush up on your skills. It will also give you a chance to learn local history in a very unique way, from the people themselves. You will appreciate all of the similarities of Bulgarian culture with your own, and learn to appreciate the differences as well. The Bulgarians are a wonderful, friendly people with a rich culture and history. Taking the time to live among them, getting to know them as friends and neighbors, is truly an experience you will always remember. Private homes for rent to vacationers in Bulgaria can be found in various price ranges. If you are looking for luxury, there are villas available. If something more rustic suits your taste and budget, then smaller homes and even old farmhouses are available to appeal to all tastes. Just as an example, one property includes two bedrooms, queen size beds, kitchen, laundry area, bathroom, central eat and the satellite television, telephone and VCR that most tourists are used to having. Imagine though the coziness and comfort of coming back to the house after a day of sight seeing to sit by the fire place, drinking a glass of a local wine, having a light dinner of pasta, and enjoying the peace and quiet of your surroundings. Staying in a hotel in a major city will certainly show you the tourist hot spots, but staying in a private home will show you the real Bulgaria.

There are so many wonderful places to visit in Bulgaria like:

- Nessebar – beautiful small town on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast a few hours south of Varna. Another one of Bulgaria’s many UNESCO world heritage sites. – Sozopol – together with Nessebar these are the two sea towns with traditional houses and ancient dig sites. – Bansko – a beautiful old village in the Pirin mountains with refurbished homes, stone wall, and cobblestone streets, but increasingly overtaken by resort hotels. Good place for skiing in winter and hiking in summer. The birthplace of the Bulgarian revival movement. If you want a true mountain village experience, there are a few other villages nearby from which to choose. In the beginning of august an annual Jazz festival is being held in the town. Skiiers and Snowboarders could find BanskoSki useful.

No visa is required for entry for citizens of the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

However, foreigners have to register at the police after 72 hours. If you have booked with a travel agency, this will be taken care of. If not – usually, your hotel will handle the necessary paperwork (ask). If you do not stay in a hotel, you will need to go to the police and take the tedious task of registering on your own. Especially for UK and US citizens, Bulgaria is really cracking down on this. Failure to register might mean a 2000 Leva fine (about $1200 US). Also take care that you have an entry stamp in your passport, otherwise your exit could be quite troublesome.

Bulgaria offers tourist attractions all around the year. Most popular are summer seaside resorts, along the entire Black Sea coastline. In winter numerous ski resorts are there to attract tourists. There are many spa, treking and historical destinations that offer incredibly rich variety of experiences.

There are hundreds, maybe thausends of mineral water springs around the country, so this is something you’d better taste and drink. Ayrian and boza are two traditional Balkan non-alcoholic beverages.
