The beautiful ancient cities of Bulgaria are now enjoying a great number for tourists and travelers from across the globe, but most of these are coming mostly because of the unique ski, spa and Black Sea resorts. Bulgaria offers some of the most exciting destinations for tourists looking to enjoy a vacation for less in Europe, offering unique and unspoiled nature. Further the country is still quite less expensive as compared to most of the other European countries.

Photograph Nick Hutt

But this country of almost 8000000 people has much to offer for a tourist wanting to explore. Bulgaria is full of rich flora and fauna and fresh water springs and curative mineral mud coasts. Bulgaria is well connected to by Eurail, European budget flyers and the Eurolines bus service and the of course, if you have rented a car in Europe mainland, you very well drive in to the country with a valid passport and visa for any of the EU member countries.

Apart from the springs and the mineral mud coasts, Bulgaria has on offer its beautiful Black Sea Coast and the amazing seaside resorts surrounding it. Every year thousands of tourists from all over the world flock to the various cities of Bulgaria located on the side of Black Sea. The largest and most important cities located on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast are Bourgas and Varna.

Although Bourgas is more of an industrial town located on the Black Sea coast, it is fast becoming a favored tourist destination because of the free trade zone and its great night life. Apart from that, the fact that Bourgas is one of the two airports on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast where your flights would land, it has also ensured that it develops faster as compared to other smaller towns. Bourgas is also surrounded by various beautiful sea coast resorts like the Sunny Beach resort for example. This resort boasts one of the longest and widest beaches privately owned. Just 35 km away from the city of Bourgas, it ensures that you can peacefully lie in the sun and still are never too far from the city. The resort has fabulous restaurants, discos and pubs to suit everyone’s needs.

Another amazing hotel cum resort on the outskirts of Bulgaria is Barcelo Royal Beach Resort. On only 25 km away from the town of Bourgas, it has on offer all the modern facilities that you can ever ask for and at prices that will make you want to stay longer. Varna is the other the major city on the Black Sea coast which attracts a number of tourists each year. Actually most of the tourists coming to Bulgarian Black Sea are landing in Varna’s international airport. It is also one the most beautiful and modern towns in Bulgaria. Varna is a town where the renaissance, medieval and the modern world meet. The city is full of amazing pieces of architecture and is surrounded by many beautiful beach resorts, such as Albena, St. Konstantin & Elena, Golden Sands and many more.

The most famous beachside hotel cum resort in Varna is the Dallas Residence. It is located at walking distance from the beach front and offers all the modern amenities with a peaceful surrounding. Being within the city, it ensures that you can always go around the city any moment to see its beautifully landscaped gardens and many other attractions that the city has on offer for every tourist.

Ivaylo Yordanov is the author and can provide you with additional information about Bulgarian Black Sea resorts & tourism.
Bulgaria weather can be cold in the winter and very hot during the summer. The perfect time to plan your holiday to Bulgaria is starting in April. Up until June, the weather is still comfortable and you will find many things to do. However, September offers beautiful fall colors and not as much congestion because tourists are heading home. The Black Sea is still warm enough to swim and enjoy the white sandy beaches. If you enjoy skiing, then you will want to head to Bulgaria in December. The months of July and August will be hot, but you can still enjoy Bulgaria beaches and attractions.

If you want some exciting things to see, make your holiday to Bulgaria exciting with a stop in Varna – this absolutely a must see for everyone who is planning a visit to Bulgaria. The Petrified Forest is a point of interest. It is an amazing place to visit and explore. Then plan to visit the history museum and the Roman Spa, which is a ancient ruins that is said to be biggest in all of Europe. Then you can visit the Aquarium and Black Sea Museum, which is amazing to see. While you are at the Aquarium, you can see the Dolphinarium, which is a show with the dolphins playing games, jumping and singing.

Next, plan your holiday to Bulgaria to include a stop in Plovdiv to see the sights. There are some extraordinary things to see and do. Visit the Ethnographic Museum before walking around the city to see Roman ruins and the historical houses. The amphitheater is still being used today and is has some amazing architecture. Take some time to view the area from the lookout at Nebet Tepe. The top of the mountain is a great place to sit and watch the surroundings. Nebet Tepe is the place you will want to take some time and maybe have a picnic lunch.

Next on your itinerary for your holiday to Bulgaria should be a stay in Sofia. Sofia is a big place with so much to see and do. You explore, dine and enjoy the nightlife. There are no laws for closing times and bars stay open all day and all night if the owners have a crowd. There is always somewhere to continue the night if one place closes. The local bars usually close around midnight and that is when the nightclubs open up for the rest of the night.

You really need to take some time to see how the nights are in Sophia. They never have trouble and people drink all night. It is amazing since the liquor and drink prices are so affordable. Plan your holiday to Bulgaria and enjoy everything there is to enjoy. See the old churches, visit the museums and see the history of the city everywhere you go. Take a day to visit Vitosha Mountain for a fantastic view of the area. Bulgaria has many things to do and if you need a little relaxation, sit by the hotel pool and enjoy the nice warm sun.

Varna is the third largest Bulgarian city. This is the true pearl of the Black Sea, located by the Varna Bay, which also has a convenient outlet to the sea. In 580 B.C. there was an Odessos colony founded here by the Greeks. But even before that, there had been a settlement located on this place. Later, thanks to the Roman influence, Varna became a large port that had trading relations with Constantinople, Venice and Dubrovnik. In 1393, the city was occupied by the Turks who founded an important military centre here. As for the city’s name, it has the Slavonic origin and means “the black crow”.

Sailors in full dress, great amount of tourists and local citizens walking along the shadowy boulevards and buildings erected in 19 and 20 centuries – all of these things help to create a special cosmopolitan atmosphere here. The city is simply charming as a mixture of ancient, medieval and modern Copyright, Nick Hutt cultures co-exist in this place.

Varna lies in the same latitude as the most famous French Atlantic resorts do. That is sun is shining 10-11 hours a day here in summer time (July and August). The sea is exceptionally calm and all the fluxes and refluxes are harmless. Like Sofia and Plovdiv, Varna boasts a wide range of cultural events, historic buildings, museums and art galleries, including the Royal Palace in Balchik and the cave monastery Aladzha. Varna museum represents treasures that come from all the periods of city’s existence, about 2000 golden artifacts that go back to 4000 B.C., Greek and Roman antiques including the ceramics, icons, arms and documents that tell the story of a fight against the Ottoman Empire.

Lots of other museums can also be found in the city, including the Museum of Ethnography with an interesting exhibition of costumes and decorations and the Museum of Natural History dedicated to coastal flora and fauna. Built in the 19th century, The Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral is a true symbol of the city, offering you to see its richly decorated iconoscope and the bishop’s throne as well as original stained-glass windows. The other important Varna’s attraction is an amazing Sofia University botanical garden. It surrounds a small palace that belonged to the Roman Empress Maria. More than 3000 kinds of shrubbery, roses and other flowers that grow along streams, fountains and adorned canals can be found here. The city itself is surrounded by numerous gardens, vineyards, green groves as well as private houses and small farms. About 20 km to the west of Varna there is a curious collection of stone columns that rise up to 7 meters high. Scientists found out that this is a geological stalagmite formation that appeared here about 50 billion years ago.

There are various resorts in the Varna region, including the Golden sands, Albena and the Sunny Day. Everyone heard about the healing power of Bulgarian mineral waters. One of the advantages of local resorts is their location in a favorable climate zone thanks to which one can combine balneological treatment with climate and medical dirt treatment.
